Tobias Harris proved to be the Detroit Pistons' most efficient option despite a whirlwind of a season where he began the season as a starter, was shuffled to the bench as a sixth man, then started a game toward the end of the season.

Despite the change of roles, the New York native thrived, averaging 16.1 points in 48 percent from the floor, 35 percent from beyond the arc, and a crisp 84 percent clip from the stripe.

Moving into the brand new Little Caesars Arena, odds are Harris will be in coach Stan Van Gundy's starting lineup, but that's not of much importance to him.

“At this point, it ain’t about starting or coming off the bench. It’s about winning games. That’s just it, straight up, 100 percent,” Harris told Keith Langlois of NBA.com. “That’s where my mentality and where I believe our team mentality needs to be.”

Harris was able to become the top scoring option coming off the bench, without the need to share his touches with the likes of Reggie Jackson and Andre Drummond, who are two of the top three best-paid players on the team, along with Harris.

That resulted in great efficiency for Harris, but a lack of overall firepower for the starting lineup, forcing Van Gundy to shuffle the deck once again, as the team failed to score or defend at a high level.

“If Coach feels it’s best for me to start, I understand that. But guys coming off the bench have to be productive with the scoring load,” said Harris. “If Coach decides he wants me to come off the bench, that’s going to be for me to accept what my role is going to be – to come out and pick up the scoring load.”

After missing the playoffs only a year after making the eighth seed, Harris is determined to come out a winner. Regardless of his role, winning can do a lot more for a player than the number of starts in his resume.

“You understand in this league that if you don’t win, everybody’s stock tumbles,” he said. “I think everybody got a dose of that this summer just through stupid things like (player) rankings (via various media outlets). I think everybody has the attitude that we need to win, especially with our team moving downtown, our fan base, just the East in general. It’s must win. No better way to put it.”
