Navigating Hisui in an open world setting can be quite the daunting task, especially if you're only going by foot to traverse the vast zones. Luckily, Pokemon Legends Arceus provides trainers with new ways to get around the region—riding on the majestic beasts themselves. While past Pokemon titles have allowed players to use Fly or Surf to get around, PLA just takes that to a whole another level. Here's a guide on how to unlock and summon all five rideable Pokemon mounts in Legends Arceus.

Rideable Pokemon in Legends Arceus: How does it work?

In previous Pokemon games, trainers could teach Fly to various Flying-types and Surf to various Water-types, giving plenty of options for traversing quickly around different locations. Fly, especially, was useful for zipping from one city to the next in just a few moments. But in Legends Arceus, the rideable Pokemon mechanic is quite different.

Only five Pokemon are available as mounts that you can ride, and keeping in line with the open world setting, it's not an instantaneous, teleport-esque mode of transportation either. Many will definitely find this enjoyable, though, as you get to steer the Pokemon you're riding like a flight simulator of sorts.

Another interesting aspect of this mechanic is that the Pokemon mounts aren't activated based on who you catch, but are instead fixed parts of the game. As you finish missions that are part of the main storyline, you'll be able to unlock the rideable Pokemon, without having to catch those ‘mons unless you specifically want them for your party or for your Dex.

What Pokemon Can You Ride?

  • Wyrdeer
  • Ursaluna
  • Basculegion
  • Sneasler
  • Braviary

Each rideable Pokemon has its own unique way of helping you get around Hisui, so make sure you use each one wisely! Also, you unfortunately can't unlock them all at the same time. In fact, the features that they provide are often right in time to help move the story along and help you navigate the next zone that you're meant to go to.

How to Unlock the Wyrdeer Ride

To unlock the Wyrdeer mount, you need to defeat the Alpha Kricketune in Deertrack Heights—the one that Diamond Clan's Mai describes as a nuisance keeping the “descendant of Arceus” (aka, Wyrdeer) away from the sacred place. Engage Kricketune in a battle and use Fire-type or Flying-type moves to deal a sizeable amount of damage.

Once you've defeated the Alpha Pokemon, a cut-scene of sorts will show Wyrdeer appearing atop a cliff (ala Lion King style). While riding Wyrdeer across the land, you can dash by pressing the B button, while the Y button lets you perform a jump or gallop kind of movement. Wyrdeer is great for its agility so you can zip around Hisui pretty quickly.

However, you can't summon the rideable ‘mon just yet. First things first, you'll need to complete the Frenzy of the Lord of the Woods main mission to unlock the Celestica Flute to summon Wyrdeer and all other Pokemon mounts that you unlock. This mission is where you have to quell the first Noble Pokemon, Kleavor, in Obsidian Fieldlands.

How to get the Celestica Flute

  • Once you've started the mission after talking with Commander Kamado, head over to the Heights Camp in Obsidian Fieldlands to reach the Grandtree Arena.
  • Battle Lian, Kleavor's warden, at the Grandtree Arena. Defeat him in battle then return to the Fieldlands Camp to report to Professor Laventon.
  • You'll head back to Jubilife Village to come up with a plan to defeat Kleavor. At the village gate, you'll find Warden Mai waiting to accompany you to go to the Heights Camp again.
  • At the Heights Camp, Adaman the Diamond Clan will be waiting with a Wyrdeer. You will receive a Celestica Flute from the Diamond Clan and a Mind Plate from Wyrdeer.

Now that you have the flute, you can summon any of the rideable Pokemon by selecting the mount on the directional pad and pressing the plus button.

How to Unlock the Ursaluna Ride

Ursaluna, the second mount that you can unlock, is also a ground-based ride. However, the difference between Ursaluna and Wyrdeer is that the deer is all about speed, while Ursaluna moves a bit slower but offers trainers the ability to dig for treasure.

Unlocking this mount requires you to head to Crimson Mirelands, the second zone in PLA that you gain access to once you've quelled Kleavor. While exploring this area, you will receive a mission to defeat Ursaluna in Ursa's Ring. After doing so, you will soon learn the Flute song needed to summon the rideable Pokemon.

While riding Ursaluna, you will see a wave on your screen that shows how close you are to hidden treasure and other locations. Think of it as a combination of a ride plus the item finder. Once you are facing the item, the wave will turn red. Press the Y button to tell Ursaluna to dig up the spot and uncover the treasure.

How to Unlock the Basculegion Ride

If you ever accidentally jumped into the water, like the streams in Obsidian Fieldlands, thinking that you could just wade through it but then ended up drowning, well now you've got a Pokemon that you can “surf” on in Legends Arceus. Your Water-type friend for swimming through lakes and streams is Basculegion, and this will definitely be valuable for you as you can save a lot of time by just crossing through the water instead of going around the long way on land (even if you have a Wyrdeer to help you).

To unlock Basculegion, you'll need access to Cobalt Coastlands, the third zone in Hisui that you can unlock after defeating the second Noble Pokemon, Hisuian Lilligant in the Crimson Mirelands. At Cobalt Coastlands, go to Aipom Hill and receive a quest from Diamond Clan's Iscan—Mission 10: The Lordless Island—involving catching a Dusclops.

Head eastward to the Deadwood Haunt area, where you'll find Dusclops near a ship on the beach. Capture Dusclops then return to Iscan to show him the Ghost-type ‘mon. After using Dusclops' Shadow Ball to cook food for Basculegion, you'll be able to unlock this mount.

Summon Basculegion when you're near any waterform, or ride another mount like Wyrdeer and jump into the water—it'll automatically change to Basculegion when you hit the water's surface. Press B to “dash” or rather surf forward quickly, and jump like a dolphin with the Y button.

How to Unlock the Sneasler Ride

Sneasler carries trainers in its basket and uses Rock Climb to help you scamper up mountains and trees. You can unlock this rideable Pokemon once you reach the fourth zone in Legends Arceus, Clamberclaw Cliffs. Here, Ingo will challenge you to a battle after you've set up the Mountain Camp. Once you defeat him, you'll learn how to summon Sneasler for a ride. It's great timing, too, because Sneasler will help you access hard-to-reach areas at the Cliffs (especially if you're looking for an Alpha Gabite) or at the next zone, the Alabaster Icelands to find the likes of Riolu and Lucario.

To summon Sneasler, you can either activate it using the D Pad and plus button, or simply go near a climbable surface and press the A button once the prompt to summon the rideable Pokemon appears. Press Y to direct Sneasler to move to the next climbable surface, and B to get off the basket ride.

How to Unlock the Braviary Ride

Last but not the least, the mighty Braviary mount gives trainers the ability to fly—not only is it a useful way to travel around Hisui, but it's probably one of the features that players are highly anticipating for the unique perspective and navigation that you get to do while soaring through the skies. The bird is the fastest mount in the game, but it'll take a bit of getting used to in terms of controls.

Unlocking Braviary means that you've gained access to the last zone, Alabaster Icelands, and you've reached the Snowpoint Temple. Crack all the puzzles at the Temple and defeat Sabi in battle. Then, when you encounter Braviary, engage in battle and defeat the ‘mon as well to unlock the rideable mount.

To control Braviary, summon the Pokemon at a relatively good height because this affects how far you can travel. The Y button makes you dive, while B makes you “dash” or flit forward—but both of them make the Pokemon head a bit downward. So it's not exactly flying but a bit of gliding as well, so time your button pressing well to cover as much ground as possible.
