Week 6 of the college football season is in the books and there were plenty of shocking results and finishes that will change the landscape going forward. Let’s predict the new top 10 in the college football rankings going forward following Saturday’s chaos.

College football rankings

(Predictions)

1.) Georgia (6-0)

What Georgia is doing on defense is incredibly impressive. In Week 6, they held Auburn to one touchdown, just the second touchdown the Bulldogs defense has yielded through six weeks.

On top of that, they're doing all of this with their backup quarterback Stetson Bennett, who has been starting in place of the injured JT Daniels the last couple of weeks against ranked teams.

Another big test awaits Georgia next week as they will take on undefeated Kentucky. For now, they're the easy choice to take over the top spot in the college football rankings.

2.) Iowa (6-0)

It hasn't always been pretty for the Iowa Hawkeyes and on a national scale, some will still role their eyes at the idea of Iowa being ranked No. 2 in the college football rankings. This Iowa team however, is pretty dang good.

The Hawkeyes came from behind to beat then No. 4 Penn State on Saturday at Kinnick Stadium. Led by a defense that piled up four interceptions, the Hawkeyes edged out the Nittany Lions 23-20.

The defense is really good, running back Tyler Goodson is an absolute stud. There are still legitimate questions as to how effective and consistent quarterback Spencer Petras can be but Iowa did just enough to beat Penn State and they will move up to No. 2 in the college football rankings following Alabama's loss.

3.) Cincinnati (5-0)

Cincinnati has entered the chat and things just got really interesting.

The Bearcats had no issues beating down a lowly Temple team in Week 6 and Cincinnati, courtesy of losses to Alabama and Penn State, jump up to No. 3 in our college football rankings predictions.

Some will slot Oklahoma here but is anyone actually sold on the Sooners after a miracle come from behind victory against Texas that is stacked on top of narrow victories over a really bad Tulane team and a sinking West Virginia squad?

What will be fascinating is to see what happens in the rankings if Cincinnati keeps beating up on lower tier competition while those right below them in the rankings will have opportunities to pick up ranked wins.

4.) Oklahoma (6-0)

There might not be a soul in the world that is convinced on Oklahoma but the fact of the matter is they still haven't lost this year.

After trailing Texas 28-7 and 41-23 at two different junctures in the Red River Rivalry, Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley benched Spencer Rattler and it paid off for the Sooners.

Oklahoma deserves to be No. 4 in the college football rankings despite the unimpressive nature of their play so far.

5.) Alabama (5-1)

What an absolute shocker.

With their backup quarterback playing, Texas A&M put up a 41 spot on the Alabama Crimson Tide and College Station was bumping on Saturday night.

When A&M blew a big lead and went down 38-31 late, there was a large assumption that Alabama had solved the puzzle and that A&M was done. Instead, they went right down the field and scored a game tying touchdown, got the ball back and knocked home a field goal as time expired.

Alabama suffered it's first loss since 2019 but still have a great shot at the College Football Playoff. It just gets a little trickier now as they will have to win out.

6.) Michigan (6-0)

Jim Harbaugh's squad should move up to No. 6 in the college football rankings. While many will slot in a one-loss Ohio State team ahead of the Wolverines, let's give some respect to Michigan.

While the schedule has turned out to be pretty flimsy given that Wisconsin and Washington have turned out to be horrible, Michigan has still gone out and won every game to date.

Slot in Michigan at No. 6 for now knowing the real tests await when they head to Michigan State, to Penn State and host Ohio State later in the year.

7.) Oregon (4-1)

Oregon had a bye week but was it puzzling to anyone else that Ohio State was ranked ahead of the Ducks after Week 5? The loss to Stanford was devastating for the Ducks but they literally beat Ohio State head-to-head.

Oregon won't jump Ohio State in the rankings but these are college football rankings based off what we believe they should be. Beating a team head-to-head when both have one loss should have Oregon ahead of Ohio State but, it won't.

8.) Ohio State (5-1)

Turns out that Oregon loss may have woken up the Buckeyes. Ohio State has back-to-back conference wins over Rutgers and Maryland by a combined score of 118-30. Yes, it's Rutgers and Maryland but it is wildly impressive to post those numbers nonetheless.

A loss to the Ducks hurt, there's no doubt about it but, Ohio State will have plenty of resume boosting chances against Michigan State, Michigan and Penn State the rest of the way.

9) Michigan State (6-0)

Michigan State just keeps flying under the radar in the AP Top 25 and on a national scale. After another win, it's impossible to keep the Spartans out of the college football top 10. They land at No. 9 in our college football rankings.

It was a fairly uneventful win against Rutgers in Week 6 as the Spartans handled business 31-13. Their biggest tests will come at the end of the year when they have Ohio State and Penn State back-to-back in the final two weeks. A date with Michigan looms on Halloween weekend too.

10.) Penn State (5-1)

Penn State was rolling on offense before Sean Clifford left against Iowa in the second quarter with an injury. After that, Iowa's defense locked in.

The Nittany Lions nearly left a raucous Iowa City with a win and while many will point to the Clifford injury, the penalties and turnovers are on the Nittany Lions and nobody else.

Still, Penn State finds a place in the top 10 in our college football rankings.
