Paris Saint Germain (PSG) president Nasser Al Khelaifi has given a fresh update on the future of superstar Kylian Mbappe. The French World Cup winner stayed in the French capital this summer after numerous links with Real Madrid and the Saudi Pro League.
Speaking to the media at the conclusion of PSG’s transfer window, Khelaifi spoke mainly about Mbappe’s future. He said, “We have had very good discussions with Kylian; he's a magnificent player, as a person and as a professional”
“We've had discussions with the rest of his family. New deal? I don’t want to talk about that. Mbappé is a PSG player”.
Whether Mbappe signs a new deal with PSG or not, the Parisians are happy to see the Frenchman stick for at least another year. Moreover, it is important for their title and European credentials. The Ligue 1 champions have seen Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Sergio Ramos depart in this window.
When you see so much talent leave in one window, you surely cannot let another one leave. Hence, the stay of Mbappe is good news for PSG, at least for now. However, there are reports that Mbappe is unwilling to sign a new deal at the club. He is prepared to run down the last year of his contract, allowing him to become a free agent in 2024.
Hence, it’s not entirely good news for the PSG fans as the decision of Mbappe’s future does not belong to their hierarchy anymore. The decision belongs to the player and his potential future club (Real Madrid or Al Hilal).
