Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban spoke to the media regarding former Alabama and Las Vegas Raiders player Henry Ruggs III's car crash earlier this week. TMZ Sports released an article and video of the coach addressing the fatal incident, stating his condolences to those involved and also his hopes for a lesson to be learned amongst his players and society.

Ruggs was driving 156 mph and his BAC was 0.161, over twice the legal limit, when he rear-ended and killed a 23-year-old woman and her dog.

This is what Saban had to say about the incident. Via TMZ Sports:

“I think this is something that a lot of folks can learn from — I think a lot of players on our team,” said Saban, who coached Ruggs from 2017 to 2019 at ‘Bama.

“When we say challenge people to make good choices and decisions — do the right thing. Because sometimes the consequences can be devastating. And these consequences are going to probably be pretty devastating to Henry.”

Ruggs played for Saban from 2017 to 2019 before being drafted in the first round of the 2020 draft by the Las Vegas Raiders. Ruggs was released from the team hours after the accident Tuesday night.

Although most of his reaction to the incident involved the team's deepest condolences towards the victims, Saban also told the media that his team will support Ruggs during this time.

“We love him, we're gonna support him through it, but we also have a lot of compassion for the victims,” Saban stated on behalf of the Crimson Tide.

Ruggs was charged with a DUI resulting in death and faces anywhere from 2-20 years in jail. He emerged as one of the Raiders' best receivers this season before being let go.
