It's been a rough season for the Las Vegas Raiders, despite the fact the team is currently in second place in the AFC playoff race. First, it was the Jon Gruden debacle, then recently Henry Ruggs wound up in a fatal accident. This led to his release from the team, as Ruggs faces 2 to 20 years in prison for his actions. However, Derek Carr has been a strong leader for this franchise through it all.

According to Mick Akers, Carr claims he will “be there for, now-former teammate, Henry Ruggs if needed.” The Raiders quarterback provides a perfect example of what true leadership looks like.

It's a terrible situation, as a life was taken away due to a horrible mistake. Henry Ruggs was driving well over 150 miles per hour, driving under the influence, as he crashed into another vehicle. It's awful for all parties involved and condolences to Tina Tintor and her family.

Derek Carr was asked about Henry Ruggs, and he provided a heartfelt message that seemingly cannot be ignored:

“He needs people to love him right now. He's probably feeling a certain type of way about himself right now and he needs to be loved. If no one else will do it, I'll do it.”

The Raiders have had a roller coaster of a season so far. However, Derek Carr has been a tremendous leader for this franchise and it shows. Despite everything that has been going on, the team has leaned on Carr's shoulders through it all. Las Vegas has every reason to implode, but Derek Carr won't let them.

It's rather impressive how Carr has been able to lead this Raiders team. They were doubted in the offseason and nobody viewed them as a playoff contender. Especially after the off-the-field noise going on, you'd think this team would collapse. Carr continues to be the leader this franchise needs right now.
