Johnathan Abram and Karl Joseph weren't originally scheduled to room together at Oakland Raiders training camp, but they knew how important chemistry is for playing together, so they asked for a change. They're expected to be the starting safeties this upcoming season for the Raiders, so they knew some extra time together during training camp would be a positive.

Abram said late at night after practice that he and Jospeh watch film and do a lot of talking, just to make sure they are on the same page.

“We talk about a lot of things afterwards,” Abram said, per NBC Sports Bay Area's Scott Bair. “We watch a lot of film at night together just making sure we are on the same page. There are certain things that we can pass off and exchange because we talk about it late at night. We are just trying to build that bond, so where I don’t even have to say something, he knows exactly what I’m thinking.”

Raiders coach Jon Gruden has taken notice of how Abram and Joseph's communication has improved this offseason.

“I think Karl and John are physical guys that are really working hard at the communication and their responsibilities,” he said. “That’s hard to do. We are throwing a lot formationally and situationally.”

Preseason hasn't even started yet so there is still a lot left to be seen, but right now it seems like the pair are on the right track toward improving a Raiders secondary that was suspect at times last season.
