The Oakland Raiders and coach Jon Gruden have a new-look offense after they added some weapons to help Derek Carr and the offense. Among the new additions is Josh Jacobs, who figures to be the featured running back in Oakland.

Coming into this season, Jon Gruden expects Josh Jacobs to win Rookie of the Year. Jacobs has said he needs to put himself in position to get to the point where that is possible.

“Gruden is telling me, ‘We expect you to win rookie of the year,'” Jacobs said. “I’ve got to put myself in position to get there.”

Earlier this offseason, the Raiders selected Jacobs with the 24th overall pick in this year's draft. They took the Alabama running back in hopes he could handle a large workload in the backfield.

At Alabama, Jacobs shared the ball-carrier duties with Damien Harris in 2018. That has allowed Jacobs to remain fresh; he comes into the NFL with little to no tread on his tires.

Altogether, Jacobs was given just 251 carries throughout his collegiate career. The Raiders plan to give him that many in his rookie season—and then some. Becoming a better pass-catcher has been a focus for Jacobs this offseason.

Last year, the Raiders ranked 25th in the NFL in rushing offense. Jon Gruden wants the Raiders to be more physical in 2019; running the ball will help them do just that.

Most people believe Kyler Murray will win the Offensive Rookie of the Year Award, but if Gruden's formula goes according to plan, Josh Jacobs will take home the hardware.
