It was a wild season for the Las Vegas Raiders last year as the franchise went through more adversity than most clubs. In the early portion of the 2021 season, Jon Gruden was fired after leaked emails revealed the former head coach used racist and homophobic remarks to colleagues. This information came to light while the NFL was investigating the Washington Commanders. Since then, Gruden has sued the league and received a big win on Wednesday.

According to Ari Meirov, the former Raiders head coach claims the NFL “leaked emails in a ‘malicious campaign' to get him fired. The league attempted to dismiss the charges, however, the judge denied the request altogether. For that reason, this case is continuing forward.

Although he received a huge legal victory, Jon Gruden doesn't get a pass. His emails revealed a ton of racial and homophobic comments that would get anyone fired. It's not likely he coaches in the NFL again. Even so, the judge believes the former Raiders coach has a legitimate case against the league.

Gruden was the only person given punishment for the leaked emails from the Commanders' investigation. It's a sticky situation, as one could argue the NFL used Jon Gruden as a scapegoat. Regardless, the racial and homophobic remarks will not go unnoticed as Gruden is not likely to return to the Raiders or any other franchise for that matter.

We'll see how this case plays out as Wednesday was the first of many hearings. It seems Jon Gruden's case will be given a full trial soon. As for the Raiders, the franchise has moved on for the better after hiring Josh McDaniels as the new head coach. The team is hopeful to string together a deep playoff run with Gruden out of the picture. Keep an eye on Gruden though, as his court hearings will pick up steam in the coming months.
