Las Vegas Raiders running back Josh Jacobs was not charged with a DUI following a single-car accident last week.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported Jacobs was instead charged with “failing to exercise due care” of his vehicle.

Jacobs was initially arrested on a DUI charge following the crash.

However, Jacobs passed a field sobriety test after being taken to the hospital for a laceration obtained from the accident. He had told officers on the scene he fell asleep at the wheel, and his attorneys said he would enter a not guilty plea if he were ever charged. That plea will not be necessary after the Clark County DA declined to charge Jacobs with DUI.

The 22-year-old Raiders running back had an interesting season in 2020. Jacobs rushed for over 1,000 yards and 12 touchdowns, but he also averaged just 3.9 yards per carry. In fact, his productivity rates were down across the board.

Jacobs had been one of the best rookie running backs in the NFL in 2019, rushing for 1,150 yards in 13 games and racking up 4.8 yards per carry. While he was somewhat underutilized in the passing game, Jacobs still averaged 8.3 yards per reception.

But Jacobs's usage technically went down in his sophomore season with the Raiders. The difference is somewhat negligible, but he averaged fewer carries per game (18.6 to 18.2), which is rather confusing given how explosive he had been in his rookie campaign. Jacobs also saw a decrease in broken tackles, though that may be in part due to some physical limitations he experienced throughout the season.

In any case, the Raiders will be expecting big things from Jacobs in Year 3.
