Oakland Raiders rookie running back Josh Jacobs continues to break records. On Sunday, he broke the Raiders franchise record for most rushing yards through their first four NFL games with 307, beating Darren McFadden's 272 set in 2008.
After receiving ten touches in Week 3, the Raiders fed Jacobs the rock in Week 4. Against the Indianapolis Colts, the rookie back tallied 19 touches for 108 yards. Through the first quarter of the 2019 NFL season, he's shown why the Raiders made him the lone running back selected in the first round of the draft: he's dynamic, versatile and has power to share.
Jacobs' best rushing performance of the season came in Week 2 of the season, with the Raiders feeding him the rock against the Kansas City Chiefs. He finished the game rushing 12 times for 99 yards in the loss. The week after, Jacobs struggled with an illness that clearly affected him in the ten-touch performance.
In Week 4, Jacobs ran the ball 17 times for 79 yards. He also had the most important run of the day. With the Raiders up by one touchdown, all they needed was a first-down to ice the game. Jon Gruden trusted Jacobs to get it done, and it paid off with the rookie moving the chains.
Oakland's success is directly correlated with Jacobs' touches. In the two games they've won, he earned 24 touches (Week 1) and 19 touches (Week 4). In the two games they've lost, he got 12 (Week 2) and 10 (Week 3). Gruden and company must figure that giving the ball to No. 28 is one of their better options on an improved offense.
