According to Rob Demovsky of ESPN on Twitter, the Las Vegas Raiders are signing veteran free agent running back Theo Riddick.

Demovsky tells us that it is a one-year-deal, but does not specify on anything else. It is safe to assume that Riddick is not getting a very lucrative deal though. Something close to the veteran minimum.

This could be a deal that benefits both sides extremely well. The Raiders already have a star at the running back position in Josh Jacobs.

However, Jacobs is far from a good receiving back. Jalen Richard has proven to be great in that category, and Lynn Bowden Jr. was drafted in the third round this year. But some extra competition never hurts.

Riddick is a veteran who spent the first six seasons of his NFL career with the Detroit Lions. From 2013 through 2018, the running back proved himself to be one of the better receiving backs in the NFL.

He racked up 285 receptions for 2,238 yards and 14 touchdowns in that time. All while playing in under 40% of Detroit's offensive snaps over those six years.

Riddick has had injury problems though. And did not play for anyone in 2019. So this is an important deal for him.

He will be fighting, not just for playing time but for a spot on the roster. But at the very least, this gives him a chance to prove to teams that he can still contribute.

Remember, from 2015 through 2018, he had four straight seasons with over 50 receptions. That included a career-high 80 in 2015.

2018 was a strong year for Riddick as well. He racked up 61 receptions for 384 yards and averaged 4.3 yards per carry as well (171 yards on 40 carries).

Clearly, there is still something left in the tank of the 29-year-old. Las Vegas wants to see what he has and if he can bring something to the table for them.

Meanwhile, Riddick is out to show he is still more than worthy of a spot on a roster in the NFL.
