The Las Vegas Raiders made an attempt to sign free agent linebacker Mychal Kendricks this week but were not able to close the deal, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.

Kendricks is coming off of a 2019 campaign in which he played 14 games for the Seattle Seahawks and registered 71 tackles, three sacks, an interception and a forced fumble. However, his season was ultimately cut short due to a torn ACL.

The 29-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of California, was originally selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the second round (46th pick overall) of the 2012 NFL Draft.

He appeared in 15 contests during his rookie year, finishing with 75 tackles, a sack and eight passes defended. He then had a breakout campaign of sorts the following season, racking up 106 tackles, four sacks, three picks, a couple of forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries.

Kendricks spent the first six seasons of his career with the Eagles. While he never quite had another season like he did in 2013, he remained a consistent and productive member of Philadelphia's linebacking corps throughout that time.

He signed with the Cleveland Browns in June 2018, but was released that August after he had been charged by prosecutors with insider trading.

Kendricks then linked up with the Seahawks in September 2018, but he was hit with an eight-game suspension by the NFL due to the insider trading ordeal. He ultimately played in four games with Seattle that season before breaking his tibia in Week 14.

The Raiders went 7-9 in 2019 and have made just one playoff appearance since 2003.
