With their quarterback situation uncertain heading into free agency and the NFL Draft, the Las Vegas Raiders are seemingly going all in on defense. They agree to sign former Miami Dolphins star defensive tackle Christian Wilkins to a four-year contract worth $110 million, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

The 28-year-old will earn $84.75 million guaranteed and form a terrifying one-two punch with Maxx Crosby. The Tom Telesco-Antonio Pierce Era is starting off with a bang.

Frankly, this regime has little choice but to be aggressive this offseason. Fans have been patient enough and demand this franchise take an undeniable step forward. That will be difficult in an AFC West division that holds the two-time reigning champion Kansas City Chiefs and Jim Harbaugh-led Los Angeles Chargers, but moves like the impending Wilkins signing show that Vegas is serious about improving.

The Dolphins took a risk by letting Wilkins enter free agency, and the Raiders are quickly capitalizing. Miami was presumably not interested in paying a substantial amount of money to a player who nearly recorded as many sacks last season (9.0) as he did in the three combined that preceded it (9.5). It obviously remains to be seen which team is right, but the decision is sure to impact both franchises in the immediate future.

Christian Wilkins also recorded 65 total tackles, 10 tackles for loss and 23 QB hits in 2023-24. He joins a Raiders squad that sneakily finished inside the top 10 for fewest points per game allowed in the NFL. General manager Tom Telesco cannot take a bow yet, though, as he and the front office must get to work on filling some of their huge holes on offense.
