Current NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock is reportedly being considered a strong candidate for the Oakland Raiders general manager job.

The Raiders finished up the regular season on Sunday with a disappointing 35-3 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, which dropped Oakland to 4-12 overall in Jon Gruden's first season on the job.

However, after firing former GM Reggie McKenzie several weeks ago, the Raiders must immediately turn their attention to finding his replacement.

And, it sounds like Mayock may be firmly in the mix, according to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.

With the interview being confirmed, it's clear that Oakland at least considers Mayock a possible fit for the franchise moving forward.

Of course, there are a ton of unknowns surrounding the Raiders right now, especially when it comes to where the team will actually play next season.

No matter where they wind up playing, it's obvious that a lot of changes need to be made from a roster standpoint for Gruden to get things back on track.

The Raiders made a lot of moves this season – most notably trading Khalil Mack – that may not have made much sense on the surface, but perhaps they were all a part of Gruden's master plan to completely rebuild the foundation of the franchise.

But getting the right GM in place is undoubtedly going to be a crucial factor in Oakland's potential success, as the personnel decisions are ultimately going to decide whether or not the Raiders can become an NFL contender once again.
