In the last few seasons, Oakland Raiders Pro Bowl quarterback Derek Carr has emerged as one of the top quarterbacks in the league. However, he struggled this past campaign going through a bit of a step back in his play that contributed to the Raiders missing the NFL playoffs entirely.

This has led to some significant changes to the franchise with the firing of head coach Jack Del Rio and hiring of Jon Gruden as his replacement that has shifted things considerably with the team's game plan and atmosphere. The adjustments that Carr has taken already under Gruden have made a strong positive impression on former Raiders quarterback Rich Gannon.

The 27-year-old has had to take on an entirely new offensive game plan that differs from what Del Rio had previously instituted. In first few weeks in the offseason workouts, Carr has made a concerted effort to get a firm understanding of the offensive scheme with a head coach that has been out of the league for nearly a decade.

This part of the transition will be highly important in helping the Raiders find success on the field this upcoming season. What could be helping the process that Gruden has focused on implementing the offense while continuing to speak highly of him throughout the first few months of the offseason

Carr has plenty of motivation to bounce back after a disappointing 2017 season that saw the Raiders fall well short of making the playoffs. This came after a campaign after Oakland reached that postseason for the first time in 14 years while he played like possibly the frontrunner to win the MVP award before breaking his leg late in the regular season. It may still be quite early in the process, but this could be a telling sign of things to come on the field in 2018.
