Fewer than five months after being signed to a one-year contract with the Las Vegas Raiders, safety Damarious Randall finds himself without a team.
The Raiders are releasing the five-year veteran ahead of the 2020 season, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo. The Raiders will owe the 28-year-old $1.5 million as part of his guaranteed base salary, but part of the salary will be offset if he is picked up by a new team before the season kicks off.
Before being signed by the Raiders last April, Randall spent the past two seasons with the Cleveland Browns. In the 2019 season, he finished with 61 tackles, six passes defenders and no interceptions in 11 games for the Browns. He was more productive in the 2018 season, when he played 15 games and had 85 tackles, nine passes defended, and four interceptions for Cleveland.
Before joining the Browns, the former Arizona State product began his NFL career with the Green Bay Packers, which drafted him with the 30th overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. After three seasons with the Packers, he was traded to the Browns in exchange for quarterback DeShone Kizer along with a swap of fourth- and fifth-round picks between the teams.
Randall joins former Cowboys safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix as having been released by their teams before even having a chance to play for their new squads. The Raiders, meanwhile, will move on to the 2020 season with Johnathan Abram, Lamarcus Joyner, Erik Harris, and Jeff Heath as their safeties.
