As expected, the Oakland Raiders will be without wide receiver Tyrell Williams (plantar fasciitis) for Sunday's game against the Green Bay Packers. Right tackle Trent Brown may join him as he's doubtful for the matchup as he deals with a calf injury.
Williams missed Week 5's win in London over the Chicago Bears after starting — and catching a touchdown — in each of Oakland's first four games. He did not practice all week.
“He has plantar fasciitis,” coach Jon Gruden said after Wednesday's practice, via Vic Tafur of The Athletic. “Whatever that is, he has. It’s not getting much better.”
The recovery time for plantar fasciitis varies between situations. The pain stems from a swollen ligament that connects the heel and the front of the foot. Raiders fans should be familiar with the injury, as former Oakland receiver Amari Cooper dealt with it during his time in California.
With Williams out, the Raiders will likely employ a three-man combination of Keelan Doss, Trevor Davis and Hunter Renfrow on Sunday. The recently acquired — and former Buffalo Bills receiver — Zay Jones should also receive snaps on Sunday, though, it is unknown if he will start.
If Brown does not play, the Raiders will depend on Brandon Parker of David Sharpe on Sunday, or possibly both, as Gruden alluded to earlier in the week. Nonetheless, both not playing on Sunday is a situation the Raiders did not want to be in, especially considering both were the team's biggest free agency hauls of the offseason and have played well when healthy.
