Success in the NFL has been proven to open doors for opportunities outside of football for players. Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr is finding that out today with plenty of companies wooing for his services to endorse their brands. But how about the idea of becoming a pop star? Does that interest the former Fresno State gunslinger?
Based on what he did in a recent commercial video for Educational Employees Credit Union, there seems to be promise for Carr in show business. In the video, Carr is seen lip-synching verses while wearing a jean jacket, and though he doesn’t look as natural in front of the camera doing it as he usually is when he’s on the field heaving touchdown passes, the commercial still is a fun one to watch.
It becomes even more hilarious with the entrance of his brother and former NFL quarterback David into the picture.
The Carrs did have fun themselves during the shooting of the music video. Carr spoke about it in an interview with ESPN’s Paul Gutierrez.
“But it was good. It was fun because every commercial we do with them, all we want to do is, the end goal is we want people to laugh. And if they laugh at me for it, that's good, that's what we want. I laughed at myself, so it's all good with me.”
Come to think of it, it was supposed to be Derek riding the coattails of his older brother, but with the younger Carr having more success in the NFL, it can’t simply be the case in trying to execute the music video.
We won’t be surprised if Derek Carr eventually finds his way into becoming a pop-star perhaps by making his own renditions of Mariah CARRey and CARRie Underwood songs – okay I’ll stop. I’ll show my way out.
