The Los Angeles Rams are set to be without the services of second-year wide receiver Cooper Kupp after he suffered a sprained ACL during Sunday's 23-20 win over the Denver Broncos.
According to Gary Klein of the LA Times, head coach Sean McVay voiced on Monday afternoon that the Rams could be in the market to add another wide receiver to the mix.
The Rams have dodged a major bullet with Kupp's injury as the play that it occurred on looked to be much worse as Broncos safety Darian Stewart tackled him in a manner that drew the horse collar penalty. He was shortly thereafter taken off the field on a cart that drew much concern as it appeared he might have suffered a significant injury that could have put the rest of the 2018 campaign in question. Instead, he erased much of that being able to take the field for a couple of plays in the second half before being taken out for precautionary reasons.
Kupp has been a huge part of the offensive game plan as he has notched 30 catches for 438 receiving yards and five receiving touchdowns. He's currently on pace for 1,168 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns. This includes a career-best performance with nine catches for 162 receiving yards and two touchdowns. He has proven to be one of their most reliable receiving options in the red zone and third-down situations in his first two seasons in the league.
There are many viable wide receivers on the open market, but the team could look to internally for help with second-year wideout Josh Reynolds picking up the slack as he has much comfort playing in the offensive system over the last couple of seasons. Reynold has three catches for 37 receiving yards and 10 rushing yards on an attempt. Things could pick up on this front over the next couple of days ahead of the Week 7 road matchup against the San Francisco 49ers.
