San Francisco 49ers safety Jimmie Ward received a hefty fine on Saturday for his dirty helmet-to-helmet hit on Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.

As NFL.com reported, the league has fined Ward $20,000 for his hit on OBJ that occurred early in the fourth quarter of the NFC title game last Sunday. After receiving a long pass from Matthew Stafford, Beckham was knocked down by Ward, which the league deemed as unnecessary roughness.

Here's the full play on what happened:

It is a costly fine, but the league certainly made the right decision. Besides, even Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey was not spared from the judgement hammer after he was fined $15,000 for his scuffle with referees.

For what it's worth, the league didn't fine Jimmie Ward's 49ers teammate, linebacker Fred Warner, for his hit on Matthew Stafford early in the contest. No flag was called on the incident, but there should have been a penalty for the uncalled hit.

Warner did say sorry for it after the game, saying that he felt “bad” about it and “wanted to apologize for that.”

Now that all fines have been given and the issues addressed, at least the Rams can focus on their big game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Feb. 13.
