Over the past few months, the NFL has proposed multiple ideas, including an extension of the regular season to 18 games. Among the players and coaches who have shown their disapproval of the idea, Los Angeles Rams' Eric Weddle seems to be strongly against it.

“I just hope we don’t succumb to any of the owners’ priorities this time around, because we shouldn’t. We should never be playing 18 games. That should never even be a question,” he said.

The NFL and NFLPA have been discussing multiple talking points as both are beginning to work towards a new Collective-Bargaining Agreement. While both sides discuss an elongated regular season, Weddle would like to see lifetime healthcare for NFL players.

“I brought [healthcare] up at the last CBA talks, that we should stop fighting over the pie, one percent more, one percent less; give them that one percent and give us health insurance for the rest of our lives, because I think we deserve it,” he said. “They laughed at me! So, I said, all right that’s the last meeting I’m ever going to come to. I thought they’re not really looking out for the best of what we’re doing.”

Lifetime healthcare for NFL players has been constantly brought up by current and former players. However, the NFL has been opposed to it and has decided to worry about other issues.

The veteran safety for the Rams is 34-years-old and could be nearing the end of his playing career. Therefore, Weddle just wants to assure that his life after football is being taken seriously.
