The Los Angeles Rams were hopeful that kicker Greg Zuerlein would be able to return to action this week. Unfortunately, it appears he still needs more time to recover.

Zuerlein has missed the last four games with a groin injury. According to Rich Hammond of the Orange County Register, he is set to miss a fifth:

Rams kicker Greg Zuerlein will miss a fifth consecutive game Sunday at Denver because of his groin strain, Rams coach Sean McVay said Wednesday.'

The update is certainly disappointing. The Rams had been optimistic about his return since last week versus the Seattle Seahawks. However, it seems Zuerlein will need another week to recover.

Fortunately, Los Angeles found a viable option in kicker Cairo Santos. The Rams signed Santos after it became clear that kicker Sam Ficken was not up to the task. Santos' debut with the team got off to a rough start in Seattle after he missed an extra point. However, he was able to make up for it by finishing the day having hit all three of his field goal attempts and another three extra points.

Although Santos has proven to be a solid replacement, Zuerlein's absence can still be felt on offense. The Rams had a chance to put some extra points on the board before halftime against Seattle. However, they opted for a hail mary instead after deeming the 53-yard attempt to be too risky. Needless to say, such a kick is well within Zuerlein's range. It appears Los Angeles will take a cautious approach with his return.
