The Los Angeles Rams players are reportedly feeling good about the recent acquisition of veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford to begin their offseason. Rams defensive tackle Michael Brockers aired his side and claimed that Stafford will bring more talent to the table as opposed to former QB1 Jared Goff.
“Is it a level up?” Brockers said when asked if Stafford was an upgrade over Goff. “In my heart, deeply, just understanding what [Stafford] brings, it's a level up [over Goff].”
“It's a level up.”
Brockers didn't want to sound overconfident but he seemed very positive about the capability of the Rams' recent signing in Stafford.
“I don't want to say a lock for the Super Bowl, but with having a quarterback like that,” Brockers said of Stafford, “and just seeing what we did last year and just seeing what he can bring to this team, there's no wonder why we can't [win the Super Bowl].”
Stafford recently concluded a 12-year tenure with the Detroit Lions where he successfully notched a Pro Bowl appearance in 2014 and broke a bevy of league and franchise records. In pursuit of greener pastures, the veteran playmaker requested a trade from the Lions which eventually garnered significant interest from a handful of teams in the league.
The Lions ultimately decided to transact with the Rams as they dealt Stafford in exchange for 2022 and 2023 first-round draft picks, a 2021 third-round selection, along with the services of Goff. Stafford's arrival to Los Angeles is timely as he is set to inherit a capable roster headlined by star defensive tackle Aaron Donald and cornerback Jalen Ramsey, among others.
Meanwhile, Goff will be heading to Detroit where he will aim to lead the team's rebuilding efforts after they finished the 2020 season with a dismal 5-11 record.
On-field preparations have yet to start for Sean McVay's squad but the Rams are already seemingly in favor of their new quarterback. Hopefully, the optimism will get to yield positive results as they aim to get back in the Super Bowl stage once again next season.
