Marcus Peters had an up-and-down season during his first year with the Los Angeles Rams, but he produced enough for Rams head coach Sean McVay to want to sign the cornerback to an extension.

When asked about Peters' contract status, McVay said he “absolutely” would like to extend him, noting how Peters played much better in the second half of the season, according to Lindsey Thiry of ESPN.com.

Peters is entering the final year of his rookie deal and is scheduled to make $9 million.

The 26-year-old played in all 16 games in 2018, finishing with 43 tackles, three interceptions, eight passes defended and a defensive touchdown.

Peters, who played his collegiate football at the University of Washington, was originally selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the first round (18th pick overall) of the 2015 NFL Draft.

He appeared in all 16 contests during his rookie campaign, racking up 60 tackles, eight interceptions, a forced fumble, 26 passes defended and a pair of defensive touchdowns en route to a Pro Bowl appearance.

Then, the following season, Peters totaled 45 tackles, six picks, a forced fumble, three fumble recoveries and 20 passes defended, making another Pro Bowl appearance and earning First-Team All-Pro honors.

He would then spend one more season with the Chiefs, registering 46 stops, five interceptions, three forced fumbles, a couple of fumble recoveries, nine passes defended and a defensive touchdown. Then, last offseason, Peters was dealt to the Rams in exchange for a couple of draft picks.

Los Angeles won 12 games this past season and made it all the way to the Super Bowl before falling to the New England Patriots.
