Todd Gurley, believe it or not, will remain a cog of the Los Angeles Rams' offensive attack.

During a Thursday appearance on the Rich Eisen Show, Rams coach Sean McVay addressed his star running back's controversial lack of involvement during last year's playoffs, suggesting that Gurley will be a “focal point” of Los Angeles' offensive going forward.

“You can expect Todd to be a focal point of our offense going forward,” McVay said. “He's in a good place, he's feeling good and will continue to be a central piece of our offense and I don't see that changing.”

Gurley, an MVP favorite early in the 2018 season, had 10 carries for 35 yards in the Super Bowl after notching just four carries in the Rams’ overtime win against the New Orleans Saints in the NFC Championship game. Second-string running back C.J. Anderson, signed as a free agent in December, was extremely productive during his short time with Los Angeles, receiving more carries than Gurley throughout the playoffs.

The two-time reigning First Team All-Pro's decreased usage led to widespread speculation that he hadn't fully recovered from an ankle injury that plagued him late in the regular season. While Gurley and the Rams have mostly stayed mum on his health, McVay on Thursday made it seem implicit that Gurley wasn't himself physically.

“He was obviously banged up at the end of the year,” he said Gurley. “The New Orleans game was just how the game played out. In the Super Bowl, he made a couple big time runs… Our offense didn't produce. That's where I have to do a better job.”

In early March, multiple reports surfaced that Gurley suffers from arthritis in his left knee, sparking concern about his potential longevity as one of the NFL's most productive, dynamic playmakers.
