Throughout the first three weeks of the preseason, Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay has taken the precautionary approach by keeping out many of his key players off the field.

This has seen the likes of Pro Bowl quarterback Jared Goff and running back Todd Gurley yet to even play a single snap in the preseason. With that in mind, McVay acknowledged that this was done in order to keep his primary starters healthy for the start of the regular season, according to Lindsey Thiry of ESPN.

McVay acknowledged the plan “might not be for everybody,” but called it the best decision for the Rams.

“It's an imperfect deal,” McVay said. “But this is the decision that we felt like we wanted to make.”

It is an intriguing decision-making process for McVay that has kept his team healthy up to this point in the preseason that has the Rams on track to be at full strength minus offensive guard Jamon Brown serving a two-game suspension to begin the year for violating the league's substance-abuse policy. Los Angeles has a tremendous level of expectations laid before them to possibly become a legitimate Super Bowl contender, especially after all the splashy move the franchise made in the offseason.

That said, this decision has been met with no resistance from his players at both Goff and Gurley have voiced that they don't mind sitting out the entire preseason. This avoids any internal conflict with both sides on the same page on the matter with the end goal being to have them healthy on the field ready to go for Week 1 action on Monday Night Football on the road against the Oakland Raiders.

Ultimately, only time will tell if going this route will be beneficial to the Rams' level of success in the 2018 season.
