The Los Angeles Rams are Super Bowl bound. However, the team's path to the NFL's version of a championship game was quite unconventional considering that All-Pro running back Todd Gurley was out-played by journeyman running back C.J. Anderson.

While Gurley held his own at times, it was Anderson that did much of the work against both the Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints. As a result, former NFL wide receiver and current NFL Network analyst Steve Smith believes that Gurley is the biggest wild card heading into the Rams' upcoming Super Bowl 53 matchup against the heralded New England Patriots.

Gurley carried the football a mere four times for 10 rushing yards during the Rams’ NFC title game victory over the Saints. Though Gurley did score a short yardage touchdown via the ground game, he did not contribute nearly as much as his counterpart in Anderson. Anderson carried the football 16 times for 44 yards and one rushing touchdown of his own.

Anderson also rushed for an impressive 123 yards and two rushing touchdowns on 23 carries against the Cowboys. On the other hand, Gurley added 115 rushing yards and one touchdown on 16 carries against the Cowboys while still getting edged out by Anderson overall.

Nonetheless, head coach Sean McVay and the Rams will have both backs at their disposal come Sunday in Atlanta. However, it remains to be seen as to which rusher gets the majority of the workload against the Patriots. One thing is for sure, the aforementioned Smith certainly makes a good point…
