The Los Angeles Rams are slated to host the undefeated San Francisco 49ers in Week 6. Unfortunately, it appears they will be without running back Todd Gurley in this crucial NFC West Division showdown.

Gurley had not been able to practice all week while dealing with a thigh contusion. He has now reportedly been ruled out versus the 49ers, via ESPN's Lindsey Thiry.

Todd Gurley is OUT tomorrow against the 49ers, per a Rams spokesperson.

The timing of Gurley's absence is hardly ideal for Los Angeles. They are in desperate need of a win following a two-game skid and are already dealing with key injuries on the defensive side of the ball as well with linebacker Clay Matthews and cornerback Aqib Talib also ruled out for Week 6. It is safe to say they will have their work cut out trying to put an end to San Francisco's perfect start to the 2019 NFL season.

Gurley's status is likely indicative of the cautious approach the Rams are taking to maintain his health for the grind of a full season. They have already dialed back his touches thus far by a significant margin by what he had become accustomed to in recent years. Regardless, it is clear the coaching staff is not looking to risk their All-Pro back further aggravating the injury.

Backup running back Malcolm Brown is now set to receive the start in Gurley's place versus a 49ers defense that has given up the fifth-fewest rushing yards per game this season (81.8). Head coach Sean McVay indicated that rookie running back Darrell Henderson could also take on an increased role in the backfield.
