The Los Angeles Rams could have interest in free agent linebacker Clay Matthews, at least that's according to Ian Rapoport.

The Rams were one of the elite teams in the NFL last season, losing to the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl. There's every reason to believe this is only the beginning for them, and they could be on top of the league for quite a while.

However, that doesn't mean they don't need to make some improvements. Adding a solid veteran like Matthews would be a fantastic addition.

Rapoport brings up two obvious reasons to believe this could happen. First off, Wade Phillips is a fan of Matthews. That's not surprising as it's hard not to be a fan of Matthews when watching him play. He leaves it all on the field and has plenty of talent to back all the hustle.

Still though, knowing that the defensive coordinator has been enamored with Matthews for a while makes this seem even more likely.

Then there's the fact that the Rams are a prime destination spot for good veteran players. Matthews will be able to go there and contributor, but also be on a team where he doesn't need to be one of the stars. He won't have to do the heaviest of lifting and will be on a team that's a serious Super Bowl contender.

The Rams will be linked to a lot of high profile free agents simply because of their talent. It's a team (and area) that a lot of players will be intrigued in. However, that doesn't always mean they'd be a good fit or that the move would make sense in any way.

With Matthews though, everything falls into place. This move makes sense and could be a reality soon.
