The Texas Rangers defeated the Houston Astros 11-4 Monday to advance to the World Series after winning the ALCS series 4-3. The most incredible part about the win may be Rangers' manager Bruce Bochy taking his third different team to the World Series. Bochy previously led the San Diego Padres to the World Series in 1998 where they lost before winning three times while managing the San Francisco Giants in the 2010s.
After Bochy's unprecedented accomplishment, his former player and Padres Hall of Famer, Trevor Hoffman, shared part of what makes Bochy so successful as a manager.
“I reflect back to the times that we shared the clubhouse together,” Hoffman said. “Bochy does a great job of in-game not flinching, he has his plan of attack and how the game will go. Really, he does an amazing job at watching his personnel. He's a guy that knows his guys' strengths and puts them in situations to be successful. And he gives you the upmost confidence in your ability to go out there and get the job done. It's shown in all the places he's been. First manager to take three teams to an LCS, and now the World Series. Really proud of him, really happy for him. If you're going to come back, you might as well win it all … I couldn't be happier for Bochy,” via Jim Rome.
Bruce Bochy returned as the Rangers' manager after retiring from the Giants in 2019. The Rangers will take on the winner of the Arizona Diamondbacks and Philadelphia Phillies for the World Series title.
