During Monday night's 114-113 overtime victory over the Brooklyn Nets at Barclays Center, Toronto Raptors star guard Kyle Lowry suffered a scary injury to his lower back and tailbone. Luckily, Lowry's injury is not bad enough that he's only considered as day-to-day, leaving coach Dwane Casey with a much lesser headache.

In an article written by Brian Mahoney of The Associated Press, Casey shared how big of a fan he is when it comes to Lowry's work ethic.

“He reminds me a lot of Gary Payton, who threw his body around and he has to play that way to be effective,” Raptors head coach Casey said after Monday night's win over the Nets. “And we love it when he does because he was in there, getting rebounds over their guards and he got clipped on that one and hopefully he's OK.”

Star shooting guard and teammate DeMar DeRozan echoed Casey's words, praising Lowry for his leadership skills on the court.

“We rely on Kyle for everything he does for us, to be the general out there on the court,” DeRozan said. “And it's tough when he's not out there but we got to figure it out.”

According to a tweet by Blake Murphy of Raptors Republic, coach Casey lauded Lowry's effort even more and added some humor.

“It’s an example of Kyle busting his butt for the team,” Casey said before Tuesday night's game against the Miami Heat.

Now that's funny, Mr. Casey. At least he knows that he can make light out of the situation since it's much less serious than it looked the other night. Unfortunately for the Raptors, Lowry was sorely missed tonight as they were edged, 90-89, by the Heat at Air Canada Center in a physical contest, snapping Toronto's five-game winning streak.
