In a very heart-wrenching scene before the Toronto Raptors' road game against the Washington Wizards, Kyle Lowry was seen doing his pre-game routines with longtime teammate DeMar DeRozan. The NBA TV panel got wind of the sentimental scene, and Lowry explained why he still does his old pre-game handshake with DeRozan.

The reason was plain and simple: DeMar will always be Kyle's best friend. After all, the former backcourt duo took the Raptors to a new, greater horizon in the NBA. Their great on-court chemistry equated their friendship off the court. Now that DeRozan is already on the west coast playing for the San Antonio Spurs, it appears that they still got each other's backs.

But despite playing without his best friend this year, Lowry is not taking his eyes off the golden prize.

Lowry told the media this statement regarding the DeRozan trade, per Mikael McKenzie of Sunday Express.

“I understand the business. I come to work,” Lowry said of DeRozan’s exit. “Our relationship is bigger than basketball… that’s still my boy. I'm here to be part of this great team… It's going to be fun, man. Opportunity like this, we have to take advantage of it. I'm here to do my job. I've always been prepared to come in and work. My mindset never changes, trying to win a championship.”

With the Raptors opting to rest Kawhi Leonard in last night's 117-113 win over the Wizards, Lowry led the team with 28 points and 12 assists. The Raptors will be back home on Monday when they face Kemba Walker and the Charlotte Hornets.
