On the day of the trade deadline, the Toronto Raptors acquired big man Marc Gasol in a blockbuster trade with the Memphis Grizzlies.

Gasol was perfectly fine going from the only franchise he has ever known to a different country entirely, and his older brother, Pau, says that it was simply to contend for a championship:

“He’s come here and got traded here to try to help this team be better and try to win a championship. That’s the bottom line,” said Pau, according to Ryan Wolstat of The Toronto Sun. “So he understands that. It’s been, it’s going to be a transition and a little bit of a process for him because this isn’t a position or a role that he’s not used to, he hasn’t been in that role in a long, long, long time. But as long as the team wins and as long as the team has a chance to win a championship, I think he’s willing to compromise what he’s capable of doing individually for the good of the team.”

Marc's Raptors defeated Pau's Spurs by a score of 120-117 on Friday night. While Pau did not play, Marc played 17 minutes off the bench, finishing with four points and seven rebounds.

The younger Gasol had spent his entire playing career with the Grizzlies before being traded to the Raptors. He was, however, originally drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in 2007, but was traded for his older brother during the 2007-08 campaign, a year before he actually came over to the NBA.

Marc is a three-time All-Star.
