The Baltimore Ravens reached out to linebacker Terrell Suggs on Friday regarding a contract offer from the team, CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports.

There really isn't much in the way of details quite yet, but it has to be a promising start for a player at Suggs' age to be receiving an extension offer from a team that he has spent his entire career with.

Suggs is still a fantastic talent at age 36 making his presence known in the pass rush. The Ravens captain has helped maintain an elite identity on defense for Baltimore for many seasons now. If Baltimore wants to retain their defensive captain as well as their elite status in the league, their offer ought to be worth while for the 16-year veteran.

The Ravens are amongst the best defensive teams in the league along with the likes of the Chicago Bears and New England Patriots. Unfortunately, since Suggs is 36, they likely won't have him as long as players like Tom Brady are playing, but it's likely he has another year or two left in the tank.

Baltimore likely offered Suggs a one to two-year deal, probably along the lines of a veteran minimum. At this point, it'll be up to the former All-Pro linebacker if he chooses to return.

The Ravens are primed for a bright future and their defense looks to be a huge part of that success for years to come. Aside from Suggs, they have some fantastic, young talent, but Suggs' presence is still significant for the current players.
