The Baltimore Ravens’ defense has looked impressive so far this season. But their Week 3 opponent will provide a test unlike any they’ve faced yet.

Ahead of an anticipated meeting with defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh says that the team’s defense will be different from the one the Chiefs faced in their Week 3 matchup last season.

Harbaugh says that the addition of key players like veteran cornerback Marcus Peters and the development of cornerbacks Jimmy Smith and Marlon Humphrey is an importance change from their defense since their last game against Kansas City (per Michael David Smith in Pro Football Talk).

“Marcus [Peters], of course. We’ve got Marlon’s [Humphrey] grown, Jimmy [Smith] is in a great role, we’ve added defensive linemen, we’ve got young linebackers, we’ve added a lot to our defense, we’ve added some scheme as well. It’s just different. It’s never the same. I’m glad Marcus is here and he’s going to be a factor in that game, no question about it. He’s a guy that they’re going to have to understand where he’s at at all times and I’m sure they’re thinking about that as they prepare.”

The Ravens are looking to have a different result from their last battle, which saw Patrick Mahomes light up the Baltimore defense, throwing for three touchdowns, 374 yards, and no interceptions in a 33-28 Chiefs win. Peters has been an important addition for Don Martindale’s defense, which so far has limited the Cleveland Browns to six points and the Houston Texans to 16 points in their first two wins. The three-time Pro Bowler has a combined five tackles, one assist, and one interception against the Browns and Texans.

The 24-year-old Humphrey, meanwhile, has eight combined tackles, one interception, and 0.5 sacks for Baltimore this season, while the 32-year old Smith has a combined four tackles in their first two games. These three cornerbacks hope to be able to disrupt the Chiefs' high-powered offense once the teams meet on Monday night.
