Bill Polian infamously said Lamar Jackson should have moved to wide receiver, something he has copped to being wrong about. But did former Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg say the same thing?

Former NFL executive Mike Lombardi claimed that Mornhinweg did just that on his podcast, but Mornhinweg denies it:

“That didn’t happen,” Mornhinweg said, according to Michael David Smith of ProFootballTalk. “Never said that. My thoughts before the draft, and even more when we started working with Lamar, was that this young man was going to be a special quarterback. Very early we saw that along with all of his throwing and escape abilities, he reads the field as well as any young quarterback I ever worked with.”

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh vouched for Mornhinweg:

“Marty was excited from the beginning to coach Lamar and was instrumental in helping him progress through his rookie season,” Harbaugh said.

Regardless of whether or not Mornhinweg made those comments, there were plenty of people who questioned if Jackson would ever become a competent quarterback in the NFL.

Jackson has proven those critics badly wrong thus far.

Not only is Jackson competent, but he is a top MVP candidate this season, as he has thrown for 2,258 yards, 19 touchdowns and five interceptions while completing 66.3 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 106.3. In addition, he has rushed for 788 yards and six scores while averaging a league-best 6.9 yards per carry.

Most importantly, the Ravens are 8-2 and are in great position to nail down a first-round bye in the AFC.
