The Baltimore Ravens are looking to bounce back after a rough finish to their 2020-2021 season. Injuries played a big part, as the Ravens were seemingly decimated at key positions all year. However, one position that was mostly healthy and simply did not produce last year was wide receiver.

The lack of upside and talent at the wide receiver position has been a talking point this offseason. Currently, the Ravens receiving corps include Rashod Bateman, Devin Duvernay, James Proche II and Tyler Wallace. There is a very good chance you have barely heard of most of those guys.

Well, according to former Ravens wideout Willie Snead IV, there is a reason for that. Snead recently joined Tyler Dunne on the Go Long podcast to talk about it.

“Yeah, it’s tough. When we’re comparing Greg Roman to a Sean Payton offense or Greg Roman to a Jon Gruden offense, it’s like night and day. There’s a lot more creativity in the passing game… If the Ravens had more creativity in the passing game and they put more emphasis on it during the season, I think more receivers would be open to coming. Because Lamar is a great player to play with. He’s all about the team. He’s fun. He brings the energy every single day. You want to play with quarterbacks like that. But the system pushes guys away.”

The Ravens last wide receiving to surpass 1,000 yards receiving was Mike Wallace in 2016. The franchise has only had one receiver ever surpass 1,200 yards, and that was back in 1996 (Michael Jackson – 1,201).

Despite the incredibly athletic and talented Lamar Jackson under center, Baltimore appears to be where receivers' careers go to die.
