The Baltimore Ravens have placed guard Marshal Yanda on the physically unable to perform list Monday as a likely precautionary measure, per Jamison Hensley of ESPN.

Yanda, who a six-time Pro Bowler, suffered a season-ending ankle injury on Sept. 17 which saw him miss the Ravens’ last 14 games of the 2017 campaign.

While Yanda did not take part in the team’s offseason workouts, Hensley notes that the Ravens are optimistic about the veteran guard’s chances of being ready to participate for training camp.

The Ravens report earlier to training camp this year as they’ll play the Chicago Bears in the Hall of Fame Game on Aug. 2. They will hold their first full-team practice on Thursday.

A third-round pick by the Ravens back in 2007, the 33-year-old Yanda has been considered among the best linemen in the NFL for some time. Apart from his six consecutive Pro Bowls from 2011-16, he was also a First-Team All-Pro selection in 2014-15. He was also named the best offensive lineman in the league by Pro Football Focus in 2016.

Yanda would have to miss the first six games of the season if he remains on the PUP list to start the season. He would not count as part of the 53-man roster.

Matt Skura, an undrafted rookie out of Duke, started 12 games at right tackle last season in place of Yanda. However, the Ravens may need to turn to another interior lineman to take Yanda’s place as Skura is tasked to become the team’s starting center this season following Ryan Jensen’s departure in free agency.
