Despite falling in their postseason meeting with the Tennessee Titans, the Baltimore Ravens still had a dominant season. The Ravens won their second straight AFC North title and they finished 14-2 in the regular season—the franchise's best season to date. After a string of outstanding offseason moves, Baltimore is poised to make another historic run this year and tight end Mark Andrews has no plans to miss it despite his medical condition.
Jonas Shaffer of the Baltimore Sun reported that the Ravens tight end plans to complete with his team in 2020 despite being diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. Andrews was quoted saying, “We’ve got a big year coming up. I want to be able to do a lot of things, and … just being able to help this team win is exciting for me.”
Shaffer added in a succeeding tweet that did not even consider sitting out the season as he wants continue to use his influence and platform in the NFL as a way to “help kids and families that are dealing with T1D.”
Over 2 million cases of COVID-19 have been recorded in the United States so far and more than 110,000 people have suffered and died because of the virus. Although Type 1 diabetes does not necessarily increase one's risk of contracting the disease, Andrews can still be considered be more vulnerable due to the nature of his medical condition.
The 2019 Pro Bowler will turn 24 this September and will be entering his third year with the Ravens.
