The Baltimore Ravens began Thursday with a flurry activity. Baltimore acquired star defensive end Yannick Ngakoue from the Minnesota Vikings, adding to an already terrifying front seven. But the Ravens are also attempting to make upgrades on the other side of the ball, signing veteran wide receiver Dez Bryant to the practice squad.

Of course, Bryant is not yet guaranteed to see playing time with the Ravens. In fact, the signing appears to be more of a trial run for the former All-Pro.

Jane Slater of NFL Network reported the Ravens want to see what kind of physical shape Dez is in, as well as his chemistry working with Lamar Jackson.

Slater added Bryant's knack for making contested catches and getting jump balls is what made him an appealing target. At just 31 years old, Bryant still appears to have some mileage left.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network also noted Bryant will have to pass his physical, and it is unknown when or if Bryant will be promoted to the active roster when/if the Ravens for sure snag him.

Dez Bryant has not played in the NFL since 2017, when he had 69 receptions for 838 yards and six touchdowns. The former Oklahoma State star was a staple in the Cowboys' passing game for years, but his tenure ran its course after eight years.

Bryant has yet to sign a contract or make significant progress in his time off, though he has not stopped working on a return to the NFL.

This move to Baltimore could be the opportunity Dez Bryant needs to get back to the league. But he will have to show the Ravens he is ready to contribute and be a reliable target for Jackson in the passing game.
