The MLB announced that Tampa Bay Rays manager Kevin Cash is the winner of the American League Manager of the Year award for the second season in a row.

The former MLB catcher has been the manager for Tampa Bay since 2015 and has led his team to the playoffs for the last three seasons.

According to CBS Sports, “Two voters from each chapter in each respective league voted for a top three in a system that gives five points for a first-place vote, three points for second place and one point for third.”

The report went on to say that out of the 30 votes, 19 had him in first place, one in second place, and one unaccounted for. With the majority of the votes for the American League honor heavily favoring Cash, it shows the respect that others within the league have of him.

Kevin Cash is joined by the National League Manager of the Year, New York Giants manager Gabe Kapler. He won by a landslide with 28 of the 30 total votes in his fourth year as a manager in the MLB.

Cash's Tampa Bay Rays finished the regular season with a record of 100-62. Although they didn't make it past the first round of the playoffs, they were the American League Champions with a record well above the other teams in the league. The closest to them would be the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees, both teams with a record of 92-70.
