Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Manuel Margot has been placed on the 10-day IL due to a right hamstring strain, per Rick Stroud.

The news comes in the midst of a tremendous start to the season for Margot. He leads the team in average (.348), on-base percentage (.412), and RBIs (21). He's also got three homers, five stolen bases, and a .500 slugging percentage. Margot's arguably been the Rays' best player to this point, as it's been the best season of his career.

If he keeps it up, he may be in line for a big contract soon. The Rays signed Margot to a two-year, $19 million extension before the season, and it's paid off so far. After coming up through the Padres system and spending four years with the big league squad, he's seemed to have found a home in Tampa Bay.

The Rays have started the season well as a whole, as they're 24-10 thus far. Unfortunately, they remain 4.5 games behind the AL East-leading Yankees, who have gotten off to a scorching start. Margot joins a slew of Rays pitchers on the Injured List, including relievers Phoenix Sanders and Chris Mazza. Guys like Tyler Glasnow, Nick Anderson, and Pete Fairbanks have yet to pitch this season. All three of them remain on the 60-day IL.

Margot shouldn't miss much time beyond his required 10 days on the IL. Ralph Garza was called up as the corresponding move, as he's allowed four runs in six innings this season. The Rays will need Margot back soon in order to try and make a run at the AL East title.
