Trevor Story made his highly-anticipated Boston Red Sox debut on Wednesday and did not disappoint. The star middle infielder signed with Boston over the offseason and picked up an RBI hit in his first Spring Training game with his new club. He was slotted in the six spot in the lineup which is where he likely will hit against right-handed pitchers this season. However, Story is expected to hit second against lefties.

Batting sixth is a far cry from his role in Colorado. He typically found himself in the middle of the Rockies order. Story expressed his thoughts on the Red Sox lineup following the game.

“I was telling [Xander Bogaerts], I looked at the board and I was like, ‘Man, we have a sick lineup, a deep lineup.’”

Trevor Story is going to be an extremely important part of Boston’s team in 2022. He offers a unique blend of speed and power that is rare to find in the league.

Manager Alex Cora also discussed Story’s role in the Red Sox batting order.

“Trevor, he is just a ballplayer. He’s going to help us — put it that way. It doesn’t matter whether you hit him sixth, leadoff, second, whatever. He brings it. You can see the intensity.”

Cora is correct in his assessment of his new star. Story is regarded as a grinder with a Mike Trout-like mindset. He is someone who is not going to complain or showboat. Rather, he comes out everyday and plays as hard as he can.

Trevor Story is poised to post big numbers in 2022 with the Boston Red Sox.
