The MLB offseason is heating up and big names like Gerrit Cole and Anthony Rendon have signed with new teams. While free agency is underway and that is the primary focus of most rumors, the trade market is also beginning to take shape. One name to keep an eye on is Boston Red Sox star starting pitcher David Price.

According to a report from MLB.com's Mark Feinsand, there are five teams “in play” for a trade involving Price. Those teams are the San Diego Padres, St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago White Sox, Cincinnati Reds, and Los Angeles Angels.

According to a source, the Red Sox have held trade talks with at least five clubs about David Price, the 2012 American League Cy Young Award winner who helped lead Boston to the 2018 World Series title.

Among the teams in play for Price are the Padres, Cardinals, White Sox and Reds, while the Angels have also been in contact with the Red Sox, according to sources.

Price is certainly and intriguing target for teams that need a solid No. 2 or No. 3 starter in their rotation. He has had a tough time throughout his career in the postseason, but there is no doubt that he is a legitimate superstar when he is fully healthy.

Last season with the Red Sox, Price ended up compiling a 7-5 record in 22 starts to go along with a 4.28 ERA and 128 strikeouts. Price isn't going to move cheaply, but all five of these teams could use a boost to their rotation. Boston may be looking to re-tool a bit after missing the playoffs last year.

All of that being said, Price is a name to watch in the coming days. Boston may end up holding on to him, but these teams could all offer a very intriguing trade package that the Red Sox can't pass up.
