As the push for the playoffs starts to fire up in MLB, the Cincinnati Reds went out and added another bat on Friday. They signed Asdrubal Cabrera after he was put on waivers by the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Reds have won 9 of 14 and currently hold the second wildcard spot in the National League. If the playoffs started today, they would play the Los Angeles Dodgers in a one game, winner-take-all scenario. They remain 8.5 games back of the Milwaukee Brewers in the NL Central, making the wildcard spot the likely destination if Cincinnati does make the postseason.

Cabrera played in 90 games for the Diamondbacks this year and slugged .392 with an OPS of .716. While it's not a massive move for the Reds, it definitely gives them more depth as Cabrera can play an array of different positions and adds a veteran presence to the clubhouse.

Cincinnati has quietly moved about all year while the Dodgers and San Francisco Giants and even the San Diego Padres have had plenty of eyeballs on them. Yet it's the Padres who were recently leapfrogged by the Reds in the wildcard race as Cincinnati is heating up at the right time.

The trio of Nick Castellanos, Joey Votto and Jesse Winker have been phenomenal for the Reds as they continue to march on.

Adding Cabrera certainly doesn't hurt and the Reds will keep powering forward in their pursuit for a postseason spot as they continue to try and fend off the Padres.
