The Washington Redskins are still looking for a quarterback to join their team after the unfortunate injury that Alex Smith suffered last year. According to senior vice president of player personnel Doug Williams, the odds that the team trades up are pretty slim, though.

Speaking during his pre-draft press conference today, Williams talked about how the team would like a quarterback to join Case Keenum and Colt McCoy in the quarterback room.

However, the team would likely need to trade up to get closer to the front of the draft, as their 15th pick isn’t exactly ideal for finding a quarterback.

According to Williams, though, while the quarterback will certainly look at quarterbacks with their pick, the odds of positioning themselves higher in the draft is “a lot slimmer” than making a move that would drop them further back in the draft via Pro Football Talk.

This is likely due to just how costly it can be to trade up in the draft, with Washington likely not wanting to compromise its future picks for a quarterback this season.

Of course, if the team loves a certain prospect, anything could happen, so it’ll be interesting to see how the NFL Draft plays out this week.

After losing Alex Smith to a gruesome leg injury last season, the Redskins completely fell apart, with Colt McCoy, Mark Sanchez, and Josh Johnson all getting time at the position after Smith went down.

With Smith still rehabbing from his injury, and with many wondering if he'll ever be able to play up to his abilities again, Washington seems like they want as many veteran arms on the team as possible.
