The Washington Redskins traded for Kyle Allen and most believed it was to be a backup to Dwayne Haskins. Allen is a team guy first, but his goal is to come to take Haskins job.

Allen was with Ron Rivera last season and will have a little advantage in that area because he already has a feel for the offense he likes to run. A large reason the Redskins snagged him.

Allen has never met Haskins, but there is an expectation they will work well together, even if there is a competition. Allen points out he has been competing for playoff time since high school so it's something he is ready for.

“We’ve been doing it our whole lives,” Allen said in a conference call Michael Phillips of the Richmond Times-Dispatch . “We’ve been doing it since we were in high school, trying to compete against different guys. At the same time, you get to meet a lot of really cool people in the process. Cam and Will [Greer] in Carolina, we all came out with great relationships.”

The big question now for Allen is how fair of a shot is he really going to get. Rivera has no attachment to Haskins because he wasn't involved in drafting him, but the Redskins did take him in the first round last season.

The other big question is if this will be Rivera's decision to make. Redskins owner Dan Snyder could step in and say Haskins needs to be the starting quarterback, no matter who has the better offseason and preseason.
