Washington Redskins superstar left tackle Trent Williams has held out all year long. He says it has nothing to do with money though. For Williams it is the fact that he does not trust the organization any longer.

The reason for that is that he had a growth years ago that the Redskins medical staff deemed as nothing to worry about. It ended up being cancer. Williams feels the team was negligent and almost cost him his life.

Now the NFL and the NFLPA will be conducting a joint investigation into those claims.

Obviously, this could be terrible news for the Redskins. If it is found to be true that they misdiagnosed cancer for as long as they did, that will look absolutely miserable.

Truthfully, the ramifications are unknown though. By that, we're talking about what the NFL and NFLPA would do to the team. Some sort of sanctions or fines maybe. They might have to pay Williams or agree to terminate his contract too.

All of that is unknown.

However, there is a ramification that you could pretty easily guess would come out of this situation. That is with players. Specifically with free agents.

You would have to imagine the Redskins would find it hard to lure free agents to the team for quite some time after the investigation if it is found to be true. Maybe even until owner Dan Snyder and GM Bruce Allen are gone.

You couldn't blame players either. If what Williams claims all ends up to be true, that would be a bad look for the franchise. How could free agents trust that they will be treated right by the team after what happened to one of the best offensive lineman in the NFL?

For now though, all we know is that the NFL and NFLPA will be investigating the claims. Nothing is known on how long it will take or what will come of them. Just like Trent Williams and Washington, we'll have to wait and find out.
