Earlier this offseason, it was revealed that Washington Football Team head coach Ron Rivera has cancer. Rivera has a form of skin cancer that is seen as very treatable. That being said, it is still cancer and never an easy thing to overcome.

Due to that, there might be times where Rivera is likely going to miss something with the team as he deals with the disease. Tuesday was one of those days.

John Keim of ESPN took to Twitter to announce that Rivera is missing practice today due to treatments.

This is something that we can expect a little bit of. Ron Rivera has said that he might have to miss some time, but he plans on being there as often as possible.

When the head coach is out, the backup plan is defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio. Del Rio has a long coaching resume, so the team likely feels more than comfortable with him taking over for short bursts.

Hopefully the treatment goes well and Rivera is ready to go for Week 1. It's obviously not his number one priority at the moment, as it shouldn't be. But it's pretty likely that the head coach is determined to be with the team again before their Week 1 matchup with their NFC East divisional rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles.

It's not a very controversial statement to say that cancer sucks. Absolute 100% trash. With that in mind, it's safe to assume that everyone is wishing Ron Rivera a speedy recovery and hoping that he can beat this thing soon.

For now, Washington is prepared to go into battle with him or without him on the sidelines for Week 1. Rivera is likely going to do everything he can to be with his team for the start of the regular season though. The Riverboat stops for no one and nothing.
